How do I get more defined lips? (Photo)

There are many different techniques when it comes to lip filler, and a lot depends on one's taste. Without seeing the width of your face to compare the width of the lips to, I cannot comment on if they wide enough for your face or not. (Not to mention, the relative size of other features also comes into play in whether or not the lips look small for one's face) The good news is filler can definitely be used to enhance the lip border and improve symmetry. When enhancing the border, I prefer to stay just at and within the border, as opposed to injecting above or towards the outer aspect of the white roll, as this gives a rolled border look, or thick upper lip look, that is not attractive. The type of filler used here is also important, as some are better as plumping agents and others are better at providing definition. I recommend seeing a plastic surgeon or dermatologist with experience doing lip filler, and look at her/his before and after photos to make sure you like the same type of results. 

These fillers, (Volbella, Restylane,Juvederm) are good to create a symmetrical and full lip. Implants or fat are alternative options. Technique will be important here, so you will want someone meticulous. I recommend using cannulas with injections. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Volbella is personally my favorite filler for lips since it defines lips and gives them natural plump, and lasts longer than Juvederm. Juvederm is great filler as well. It is of crucial importance to chose experienced provider to have better results. I would advise you to start with one syringe, and if you want more plump, you can always go back for touchups. The best way to get more defined lips (especially if you have "bleeding lipstick lines") is to inject the edge of the lips ("vermillion") with a fine filler, such as restylane fine lines, Teosyal redensity-II, and Juvederm Volbella. Technique here is very important, so ensure you have an expert highly trained injector such as a dermatologist treating you.

The best way for you to have a bit more definition would be to have some on the outline of the lips and in Cupid's bow.  I like Restylane Silk for this purpose as it gives a subtle and natural look. Please consult an expert in lip injections.  Best, Dr. Green

The borders can be more defined by proper placement of filler along the vermillion border. This should  be done is a subtle manner. Too much, and it doesn't look natural. The slight "ski jump" effect is called the "Paris curl".  Silk is a great product for this because it's molecular size is very small and allows for precise placement of the filler.

You have a very nice shape to your lips but I do understand what you mean about the light border color versus your skin tone. We could define your lips volume wise with hyaluronic acid filler, however the borders will not change. I think the increased volume in the body of your lips will make you feel that they are more defined even though they will still have a light colored border. I recommend an in-person consultation with a board-certified dermatologist with extensive lip enhancement experience, to discuss your needs and goals and devise a treatment plan that's right for you.
