Can I do skydiving after I had a rhinoplasty about almost 5 months ago?

I commonly get questions like yours — "Is it okay to do _____________" after my Rhinoplasty surgery? The primary concern after having a Rhinoplasty procedure is the healing of the nasal bones, which happens surprisingly quickly. Patients come in at one week for splint removal in my office, and usually they do not have significant discomfort at the area of the nasal bones by this time. This indicates that the bones have already "set" and are no longer mobile. The bones will continue to heal and strengthen for many weeks and should be fully healed after three months.After this point, many patients can return to their usual activities, but I do recommend being particularly careful for the first weeks and months. It's always possible to fracture the nose, whether or not you've had surgery. For athletes and others that are at risk of getting hit in the nose, it is important to be careful in choosing a timeframe for surgery. For those that could sustain repeated trauma to the nose, such as MMA fighters or professional hockey players, I typically recommend limiting nasal surgery to focus on addressing nasal obstruction and deferring aesthetic surgery until they retire from their sport.Hope this helps,Nick Slenkovich, MD FACS

After 2 months of healing you can safely skydive. It might be helpful to use some Afrinnasal spray before the dive to prevent barometric pressure related nasal pressure. RegardsDr J
