Is there any pill I can take before Restylane lip injection to prevent swelling?

I'm getting my injections done for the third time tomorrow and I'm wondering if there is something i can take to prevent swelling and bruising. ( i can't get my hands on arnica montana in my area) i tend to swell and bruise a lot, more than most people. Swelling usually goes down after 3 4 days. Bruising lasts longer. But it's the swelling that bothers me the most. I'm not allergic and not on any medication. Thanks

I suggest using Arnika Forte and going to a physician that does cannula injections to limit swelling and bruising. I like to use Juvederm Volbella for the lips for minimal swelling as this product holds very little water.  See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer.

Generally, now that we have Volbella, I have very little swelling or brusing with lip injections.  In fact, it has really improved my overall abilities to bring what patients desire to them.  Restylane Silk is great as well but it does cause some swelling for a day or two after it is done.

This all comes down to technique and skill.  There are a lot of people out there who don't know what they are doing.  Take a look at my video and you will see how easy it is if it is done by an expert.  Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your question. As you are aware, some patients experience diminished swelling using Arnica. Others say grapefruit helps. I feel use of cold compresses is probably the best way to limit swelling. I hope this helps.Good luck,

Thank you for your question. I always tell my patients to avoid taking blood thinners before treatment, such as ibuprofen and Motrin. This is because they can lead to more bruising. You can also take Arnica pills before treatment to help reduce the risk of bruising. Applying ice immediately after injection can also help. I recommend using a cannula to help minimize the risk of bruising. I suggest you talk to your injector for his/her advice on this matter. Best of Luck!

Restylane silk is a great product of choice for the lips and around your lip area! Restylane silk will deliver those fuller lips you are looking for and smooth the lines around your mouth. After injecting filler especially the sensitive area around the lips you will be a swollen for 24-48 hours. This is very normal!  So plan to ice those areas and use your arnica medication! Many patients experience bruising and swelling after Restylane injections.  Having a highly experienced injector will make these side effects less likely, but they are still possible.  Ice applied directly to the site immediately after injection is helpful sometimes.  Ask your injector for specific recommendations.

Thank you for your inquiry. You can minimize bruising by not consuming certain ingredients that cause bruising such as green tea, ginger, and over-the-counter supplements like Omega‑3 pills. Icing the lips immediately after injections and repeated sessions of icing on the lips for the first 24 hours can help relieve symptoms quicker. Elevated sleeping the first night is also recommended to reduce any swelling in the face and lips. Ask which homeopathic remedies similar to Arnica are available in your area. I hope this helps!
