I'm a young male in my 20s, I am considering between genioplasty, and chin implant to help with my profile. Or do I need DJS? I think it might be too invasive for me.
Answer: Chin definition Either a chin implant or sliding genioplasty would achieve a greater facial balance. In severe cases, I usually prefer the sliding genioplasty.

Answer: Male, 20s. Would genioplasty or chin implant be better to help with my profile A sliding genioplasty is performed by an oral surgeon in a hospital setting under general anesthesia with an overnight stay at the hospital and is much more invasive. Its usually performed when the teeth are significantly out of alignment. Placement of a chin implant is much less invasive, and its placed thru a small incision underneath the chin under local anesthesia, which takes about 30 minutes.

Answer: Understanding the problem and treatment options.Understanding the problem and treatment options. You have a deficiency in both the mentalis and the body of the mandible. Both the chin and the main mandible are both lacking in sufficient size in comparison to the Maxilla. A chin, implant or sliding genioplasty, will only address the tip of the mandible or the mentalis or chin region. If you look on your profile picture, you can see that your upper lip has significant more forward projection than the lower lip. Most likely you have a significant overbite dental occlusion as well. I suggest talking to oral surgeons and understanding all your cheap and options. The best treatment option would be to address dental occlusion, and the shape of your chin so in other words both. I think you’ll find a plastic surgeons will have a more soft tissue approach and may not see the need for a proper skeletal assessment. It’s never a bad idea to consult with providers who can offer all options regardless of what procedure you choose. It’s also not a bad idea to consult with multiple providers before selecting a surgeon to work with. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you the before and after pictures of previous patients, who had similar facial characteristics to your own. This way you’ll have a better understanding of what your results are likely to look like regardless of what procedure you choose. There’s only so much augmenting the chin can do. best, Mats Hagstrom, MD
