I'm 30 year old 6'0 171lbs gender-flexible male. I would like to have a very rounded female-like buttock and wider hip. I wonder if I'm a good candidate.

Answer: Male BBL The BBL can be done as a more masculine or feminine procedure based on if volume is added to the hips or not. I see no reason why you can’t have a quality outcome though there are some inherent limits for how much volume can be added. When it comes to grafting fat you can think of this as a procedure that can potentially double the thickness of what’s already present in regards to subcutaneous fat. Most plastic surgeons for a good reason will not graft fat into the gluteus muscle so they only tissue are available to serve as host tissue to support the graft is subcutaneous fat. to assess the thickness of your subcutaneous fat take one finger and gently press it onto your skin on various parts of concern until you feel the underlying muscle or bone. for example expect the fat layer to be thinner in the hip dip area. On a man this may be one quarter inch or so. if that’s the case then you can expect the area to double or become one half inch inhiness as a final outcome from the procedure. Obviously there are some subjective variables but this is a good way to start out obtaining an understanding of what can and cannot be achieved with fat transfer. Delivering consistent high-quality both Liposuction and fat transfer results is more difficult than most people believe. Results vary substantially among different providers. For this reason it behooves every patient interested in this procedure to carefully vet plastic surgeons in order to find the most talented and experienced provider in their community. Do that by scheduling multiple in person consultations with providers who seem to have a good track record for the BBL procedure. During consultations ask each provider to show their entire collection a before and after pictures of the Bealls especially male BBL procedures. I typically perform a BBL procedure about once a week. i’ve probably done about 400 of these to date. of those 400 patients 4 represent male patients. Of those four patients I have follow up pictures for two of them. You might find someone with substantially more experience than my own though my practice is exclusively limited and has for the last decade to only doing Liposuction and fat transfer procedures. The male BBL is a highly underrated procedure but it is not performed often so you may have a challenge finding someone who’s done 25 or more of them. When done as a feminizing procedure it is not drastically different than a female and BBL. One done as a masculine procedure it should be approached quite differently. Still, when patients are left disgruntled or absent from the outcome of a BBL it’s more common that they are upset about complications or bad outcomes from Liposuction than the fat transfer aspect of the procedure. Both Liposuction and fat transfer can leave people disfigured with undesirable outcomes if done incorrectly. On top of asking providers to see their entire collection before and after pictures which should be substantial and most likely include female BBL‘s(an experience provider should have at least 50 sets up before and after pictures) I would also read over all reviews on various physician review websites and illuminate providers with any significant number of justified negative reviews. Otherwise the process is quite simple. I would encourage you to avoid virtual consultations and schedule many more consultations than you think you need. It is not easy to find the best provider and not doing so can lead to subpar outcomes. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
