How long should I continue to take my Valium after my breast augmentation?

Hello,Valium is not part of my regular prescribed medication list. Typically my patients take pain medication for the first 3-5 days post op. I recommend that you discuss your specific medication needs with your Plastic Surgeon.All the best

Thank you for your question and congratulations on your surgery.  By three weeks you should not need any further Valium for your surgical results.  Anti-anxiety and muscle relaxant medications are good for the immediate postoperative period to minimize pectoralis swelling and cramping which reduces a patient's pain.  As you no longer need pain killers you should be able to stop the valium now.  Hope this helps.

Many surgeons who do submuscular breast augmentation use a muscle relaxant medication like valium. This lessens post op muscle spasm which allows for less pain meds and allows the implants to fall without the muscle spasm displacing  them up as easily. Most of my  patients only need it for 5-7 days, but a few for awhile longer. Discuss with your surgeon.  Good luck.

Thanks for your inquiry, I am not sure I have heard of valium causing the implants to drop too low.  It is best for your discuss your muscle spasm options with your plastic surgeon, good luck.  

The valium after breast augmentation helps the pectoralis chest muscles to relax faster, which allows the implants to drop into the correct position. Your board certified plastic surgeon performs breast augmentation surgery in such a way that the implant will fall into position. Taking valium too long will not change the position of the implant. Most patients don't need valium past about 3-5 days. Some patients prefer to continue taking it at night. Aleve during the day over-the-counter or a prescription muscle relaxant may also do the trick. Be sure to ask your plastic surgeon if either of these is right for you. Congratulations!

Valium is used for anxiety and you probably shouldnot be using them at this point. It is always best to review your meds with your surgeon.

Valium can be very useful following submuscular breast augmentation.  It helps to reduce the muscle spasms induced by the stretching of the muscle over the implant.  I rarely find that patients require it for more than a week.  However, patients with larger implants or increase muscle irritation may require it for an extended period.  I also frequently advise patients to stretch their chest muscles following surgery which is very helpful in reducing muscle spasms.  Hope this helps and good luck.

valium will not cause your breast implants to drop. I would talk to your doctor about the valium. That isn't something I commonly use after a breast augmentation. There was a good reason for giving it to you, or it wouldn't have been given in the first place. You need to talk to the doctor to find out when you should stop.

Valium will not cause your implants to drop. However Valium has a very high risk of addiction and I would recommend that you stop taking it. Of course check with your surgeon.
