Overhang after mini tummy tuck (not there before!). Do I need a revision? (Photo)

Question

i had some loose skin on my lower stomach. i was told by a couple plastic surgeons i need a mini tummy tuck so i chose one and went for it. i am thinking the doctor i chose was not the best doctor or maybe i am wrong. i am 6 months post op and i look horrible. i look huge and i have this giant overhang, i cant even imagine how it’s possible. is it swelling or is this my results? do i need a revision? i dont mind the skin over my belly but i hate the overhang

I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice.

Dear Virginian,
   It would have been helpful to see your before and after side view pictures. Since you are stating that you are "huge" and in one of the pictures it says "no muscles tightening ", here lies the problem. It sounds like you would have benefited from muscles tightening. So it appears that you had skin only tummy tuck with floating belly button, which is not the optimal way for performing  tummy tuck surgery.
   If your surgeon is not responsive to your concerns, consult with other experienced board certified plastic surgeons who operate in accredited surgery center for your safety. Most importantly, check the before and after pictures in the photo gallery, to make sure that they are numerous, consistent and attractive with flat stomach, nice belly button, narrower waists, low scar and improved body posture.

From your pre op photos it appears a standard tummy tuck was indicated.  I don't anticipate you'll have significant improvement from the current results. In order to attain proper correction, a standard tummy tuck would need to be performed.

This post demonstrates many issues. First doing the incorrect surgery for the cosmetic issue. I would have recommended a full TT with muscle plication. But you did not discuss reasons on having an extended mini TT. Now you need complete revision to full TT. Fees from $10,000. Best to virtual consult with....

It’s a little difficult to interpret the timeline of your results. The wrinkly skin definitely looks like some thing isn’t right. It would be helpful to know which of the pictures is the most recent.
Regardless, if you’re not happy with the outcome you should definitely consider a revision.
Unfortunately The quality of revision surgery tends to often reflect the quality of the primary procedure.
In other words if someone doesn’t know how to do the primary procedure correctly it is unlikely they’ll be able to do a good job at revision.
Generally speaking revision surgery is more difficult than primary procedures so patients have lost faith in their provider may want to consider searching out for a more talented and experienced provider for revision surgery.
To get a proper second opinion consultation scheduled those as in person consultations and come prepared with proper before and after pictures and ideally a copy of your operative report. These are all available from your first surgeons office as they are part of your medical record which you’re entitled to by asking.
In the end your surgeon is responsible for the outcome and likewise you are responsible for choosing that surgeon.
The outcome of tummy tuck surgeries often improve gradually over a long period of time and things like how the scar looks can continue to improve for 18 months.
Sometimes simply giving things enough time is all that’s needed.
To get a quality assessment and better understanding of treatment options I suggest multiple in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons.
