Hard to tell from your photos but probably nothing to worry about this early following your procedure.Scattered numbness in the suctioned areas occurs occasionally and will disappear within afew weeks. Bruising and swelling are normal in the suctioned areas and usually increase slightly after the removal of any tape or foam. The bruising will decrease over 3-4 weeks, but may last as long as 6 weeks. The majority of the swelling will be gone within the first 3-4 weeks. However it may take 6-9 months to disappear completely. The compression garment helps reduce the swelling, and the longer it is worn, the more quickly the process will proceed.

You have more bruising than would be considered average after liposuction. This will have no effect on the long-term outcome.

It is very common to have bruising and swelling for weeks to months after liposuction procedures. What is most important is that you follow your surgeons post operative instructions and continue compression. At ten days, it is normal to have bruising and swelling. You really have to give it time to settle down at this point. Best of luck.

Some bruising is common after liposuction.Small blood vessels are sometimes injured during the liposuction process.Typically, this procedure has very little blood loss.Because it is a closed procedure, what blood is there is trapped in the tissues until dissolved by the body.It is not uncommon for one side to be more bruised than the other.The hemoglobin in red blood cells is slowly broken down by the body.As it does, so it goes through various stages of pigmented molecules.This is what causes the physical signs, including discoloration.Mild to moderate bruising will not impact the final outcome.When there are large amounts of blood in soft tissues, such as with a hematoma, then significant amounts of inflammation and scar tissue can form.Typical bruising seen after liposuction usually takes 10 days to three weeks to disappear. Anything more than three weeks indicates there was a significant amount of blood left in the tissues after the procedure.Based on the pictures you show, I anticipate your results will be fine, and the bruising will resolve over the next week or two.It's also common for the bruised area to move.Gravity will allow the pigment to slowly move to a lower position.For example, inner knees or even calves could show some signs of bruising with time.Always follow up with your plastic surgeon and keep him or her abreast of what's going on.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
