Answer: Swelling after TT Dear L.Blod84,Thank you for your question. Swelling after surgery is normal as your body is beginning to heal. Your body has been through a trauma, causing you to retain water. Swelling and bruising do tend to the move with gravity as well. If you are concerned, be sure to follow up with your operating surgeon.

Answer: Tummy Tuck - Post Op Swelling? Thank you for your question and photos. You should expect to have swelling for three to six months following tummy tuck surgery. Use of a properly fitted compression garment will help decrease the length and severity of the post-operative swelling. As the swelling decreases, the contour of your abdomen, flanks, and hips will dramatically improve. Please follow your plastic surgeons specific advice regarding your level of physical activity. Hope this helps and good luck with your recovery.

Answer: Swelling Swelling can take several months to resolve after tummy tuck surgery. If you are concerned about the advice your receiving, speak with your plastic surgeon directly. The swelling can definitely move down with gravity. Any swelling that is out of the normal range needs to be evaluated by the surgeon. Good luck and congrats!

Answer: Swelling after Tummy Tuck and Lipo hi, L. Blod. Congratulations on your tummy tuck and lipo! it is very common to have swelling following either a tummy tuck or lipo, and it is not uncommon to have swelling in other parts of the body. Some patients will retain fluid throughout their body and have swelling all over. Other patients may experience swelling in dependent areas below their surgery, as in your case, or in adjacent areas. Swelling will be affected by a given patient's healing characteristics, the type of fluid used during surgery, a patient's nutrition snd protein levels, salt/electrolyte balance, stress, hormones, proper vs. improper compression, obstruction of lymphatic flow, positioning, etc. Generally, being well-hydrated will help your body and kidneys deal with the excess fluids and any excess salt levels; in addition, staying hydrated may help prevent blood clots in the veins, maintain your blood pressure, and help your heart deal with any post-operative anemia. In some unique situations, very excessive water intake may upset the salt/electrolyte balance and cause fluid issues. I would confirm with your surgeon regarding any water restriction. If your girdle is too tight or binding in the groin area or if you have been sitting a lot or lying with your groin area in a tight flexed position, the lymph nodes and lymphatic channels in your groin (the drainage system for your lower body) may become partially blocked, causing more hip and thigh swelling. I also find that sodium intake restriction and a nutritious diet with good protein helps minimize post-op swelling to a degree. Best of luck to you, and I hope you have a smooth recovery and great results!
