Fat transfer for breast enhancement, do you lose nipple sensation?

Question

If you do a fat transfer for breast enhancement are your nipples removed and if so is there another alternative to this as I would like to keep my feeling in my breast as it connected with arousal.

Thank you for your question.   No, the nipple is not removed from the breast for a fat transfer to the breast. It would be rare to lose nipple sensation permanently although you may have a temporary numbness which resolves over a few weeks.

No, in this type of treatment you shouldn't lose nipple sensation. However, gentle harvesting is important to get the most viable fat to transfer. Hello,Thanks for your question. If you are having fat transfer to the breast for a simple breast augmentation, the nipple generally does not need to be surgically moved. In this case, the incidence of numbness should be quite rare. If your surgeon believes you need a nipple areola complex lift to center the NAC onto the new breast shape, then the risk of numbness goes up. Discuss this with your surgeon.Good luck,Dr. Shah

Thanks for your question.  Fat transfer to the breasts is typically accomplished through one or more small incisions placed strategically about the breasts to allow your surgeon to accomplish the intended goal of improving your breast contours.  The nipples are not removed during these types of procedures, and it is unlikely that you would suffer long term sensation changes to the nipple.  You may note temporary changes in nipple sensation (either hypersensativity or loss of/lack of sensation) that should resolve as acute post operative swelling improves.  Best of luck!

of all the breast enhancement procedures, I would say hay fat grafting would have the least likelihood of losing nipple sensation. There are no significant cuts around your nipples (or anywhere on your breast for that matter) and while there will be swelling all over your breasts temporarily after the fat is grafted, there should be no permanent loss of sensation. Some patients report a temporary loss of sensation immediately after surgery, but that goes away within 2 weeks with the swelling. Most surgeons graft the fat with blunt cannula tips so it just pushes the nerves and veins away as it is injected.

Thank you for your question. Typically during breast fat transfer small stab incisions are made in the lower fold of your breast and the fat is transferred evenly throughout the breast. This typically does not affect the nipple or the nipple sensation. Best of luck!

Thank you for your question. When transfering fat to the breast your nipple areola complex is not removed. Usually small incisions are made on the fold and the fat is injected throughout the breast. Since blunt cannulas are used to inject the fat, these will not damage any nerves so loss of sensation will not occur.
