Nausea 5 days after breast reduction surgery. What could be going on? Drs said my breasts are healing and blood work came fine.

I am sorry to hear about what you are experiencing. It is difficult to ascertain what this is and its causes. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon to have yourself properly assessed. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

Thank you for your question and sorry you are not feeling so great after surgery.  Nausea can be caused by the antibiotics you are currently taking and any other post operative medication you may be taking.  There is always a possibility that you maybe coming down with something. I would follow up with your surgeon and possibly your PCP to make sure nothing else is going on.  Best of luck and hope you feel better soon. 

Having nausea five days after breast augmentation may be a result of one or a combination of things.  If you experience constipation, this can make you feel nauseous. I know it is hard to keep anything down, but try not to become dehydrated.  I recommend that my patients drink 100 grams of protein each day to promote healing.  Try walking inside the house to facilitate circulation and also increase your appetite.  Try to relax as everything seems to be fine.

Thank you for your question. Sorry to hear about the ongoing problem. Stopping the pain medication is a good first step. It also may be due to other medications you might still be taking. Also, the narcotic medications can cause constipation so be careful with that. You might need an alternative medication for nausea. Most commonly this is still a situation of anesthesia, pain medications, and the stress of the procedure on your body.  If lab work proved negative you should see steady improvement in your symptoms with time.  Best wishes.

If you are still taking prescription pain medicine and/or antibiotics, that could be the cause of the problem.  Likewise, if you become constipated from the pain medicine, it can lead to nausea. 



There are some people who are just unusually sensitive to anesthetic agents and you could be one of those.  Best of luck to you.

Hi, and thanks for your question. I'm sorry to hear that you are still experiencing nausea this far after surgery. Usually, the nausea patients experience is caused by a combination of the anesthetic drugs and the narcotics prescribed after surgery. 
If you've already stopped all of your medications, it could be related to post-op constipation and not moving your bowels normally after surgery. Some people experience nausea just due to the pain from surgery itself. Be sure to keep follow-up with your doctor. There may be other nausea medications they haven't tried yet, and it will be important to be seen in person to make sure nothing else is going on with your GI system. Best of luck with your journey!
