Hi Christina! I can see what you're talking about. Aside from the skin and bone, there are a number of different cartilages in the nose. The upper lateral cartilages are near the midpart of the nose while the lower lateral cartilages are further down. In the area you're showing, it could be the latter. Sometimes, they become bulbous and convex over time. They often need to be flattened to get the proper shape in the lateral sidewalls of the nose. The septum could be playing a role as well. What you have is a concave lower lateral cartilage on the side of the piercing, and a convex lower lateral cartilage on the opposite side. A closed rhinoplasty can accomplishshaving down the convex side and adding a cartilage graft to the concave side in addition to shaving down the dorsal hump. All the incisions are placed on the inside of the nose. No external incisions are required.
