What percent of swelling should be gone at certain points after a rhinoplasty?

The general rule of thumb after rhinoplasty is 3 weeks of initial swelling. At that time things start looking good. The next landmark is 6 weeks when the nose has really taken shape. After 3 months the initial recovery is complete. The next landmarks are at 6 months and 1 year. At this time all recovery is complete and healing is mature.

The general rule of thumb is that some degree of swelling lasts for about a year after a Rhinoplasty.  The majority of this swelling should go done in 6-9 months, but can persist for a longer time in revision Rhinoplasty or in more complex cases.  The area most involved in terms of swelling is the nasal tip.

Swelling can vary depending on the technique used in the rhinoplasty, how complex the procedure was, and also from individual patient variations. The amount of swelling is easier to qualify than quantify.  In general the first 2 weeks resolve most of the swelling, say 80%, and the next 6 months resolve the rest.  In some patient it can take even longer. 

The bottom line is that a full year must pass before you can truly assess your result. Within that first year, some patients will resolve 90% of their swelling in the first month while other can take up to 6-9 months to reach that point. The most important point of observation is the rate at which you're healing. Your surgeon will take into consideration what was done during surgery and the timeline of your healing.
