Is it possible for a Tummy Tuck to alter the effectiveness of a Tubal Tigation done 10 years ago?

I'm 39 years old I had a tubal done 10 years ago at the same time I had a csection from high risk pregnancy. I had a tummy tuck to get rid of lose skin from c section and I'm 14 weeks post op. I'm never late with my cycle and I'm now 4 days late. Is it possible for a tummy tuck to alter the tubal procedure I had 10 years ago? My gyno can't see me until next week & I'm concerned.

It is very unlikely that a tummy tuck will affect the results of a tubal ligation since the abdominal cavity is not entered in a tummy tuck.

The tummy tuck surgery involves manipulation of tissues that are in front of the abdominal wall muscles. The ovaries and fallopian tubes are located behind the abdominal wall muscles and are never encountered during a tummy tuck. There should be no affect on the effectiveness of your tubal ligation.

No. It would be nearly impossible for a tummy tuck to affect your tubes being tied. The surgery for an abdominoplasty procedure is all outside of the internal abdominal organs which is where the tubes are. It would be extremely out of sorts for an abdominoplasty to affect that operation. Look to other causes.

Hello, as stated before by the other colleagues, we do not enter the abdominal cavity during a TT procedure. Just remember, there is a small percentage of patients that undergo tubal ligation, in whom this procedure eventually fails. The best answer on tubal ligation failure rates should be given by your Gynecologist. Good luck!

No tummy tucks do not usually alter the effectiveness of a tubal ligation because we typically are only operating on the "outside" of the muscles and do not go into the abdominal cavity.  Surgery and anesthesia and the post surgical stress do often alter menstral cycles.  If in doubt do a pregnancy test a home and see your family medicine doctor.

An abdominoplasty procedure does not typically enter the abdominal cavity, where your reproductive organs reside.  As such it should have no impact on the effectiveness of a tubal ligation.  However, sometimes cycles can become temporarily irregular after a significant surgery, so that is likely to be the culprit.  On the other hand, even a tubal ligation is not 100% reliable as a method of birth control, but it's pretty close!  The other cause for a late period is of course a pregnancy.  An over the counter pregnancy test might help resolve your anxiety until your appointment next week.  Good luck either way!
