Is flying safe after two days from having a tummy tuck? Flight time is 1.5 hours (Photo)

I tyically have my patients stay around for 5-7 days after a tummy tuck.  However, if you fly back sooner make sure you do your foot pumps!

Thanks for the question. Generally, most patients can fly within 2 to 4 weeks after Tummy Tuck surgery. However, car or airplane travel should be avoided to prevent the risk of blood clots in the legs. I wish you all the best.

For a variety of reasons I would ask patient from out of town to remain in the premises for about a week after in abdominoplasty. It is important to keep active to reduce the risk of pulmonary embolism. There are short-term risks such as seroma that any surgeon would prefer to take care of himself.

I definitely would not fly two days after a tentative procedure. You're at a increased risk for deep venous thrombosis. Additionally you will not feel well enough to make that trip even though it's only an hour and a half. I would reorganize your flight itinerary to fly out 5 to 6 days later. Good luck

This question has to be discussed with your Doctor. It is difficult to say if you are a candidate without a frontal and a back picture. However, it does appear you would benefit from a a Tummy Tuck with flank lipo.I normally do not use drains.In our practice-- we have all of our out of town/ out of country patients stay at least 7-10 days for the follow up visits. It is not safe to travel 2 days after TT/lipo, I do not recommend it. If any of my patients did it- i would find them in breach of post op agreement! 

This is a question that is best answered by your plastic surgeon as there are no hard and fast rules.  In general 2 days is a little early to be ready to travel for a variety of reasons.  You will have limited mobility and may place yourself in unnecessary risk.  Best to avoid travel for the first week so that you plastic surgeon can follow your progress. 

No. This is around the time you are at highest risk for a blood clot to form in your legs (deep vein thrombosis a.k.a DVT). The blood clot can break off from your legs and go to your lungs. This can be lethal. I would not recommend flying two days after tummy tuck. Good luck.

You should definitely not fly, even for 90 minutes, two days after surgery.  You would be at risk for a deep vein thrombosis.  You will also not be in shape to fly, let alone go through all the hassle attendant to the TSA.  I am very surprised that you have been able to find someone in Atlanta who is willing to remove drains from an operation performed by someone else in another city.  My question is why, in a city with many highly skilled board certified plastic surgeons, you would choose to go elsewhere.  If you elect to do so, you should remain in that location until after your sutures have been removed, at minimum.

The short and direct answer to your question of flying on the second day after tummy tuck is NO! I don't think any qualified, board certified plastic surgeon would allow this. That flight would greatly increase your risk of developing a deep venous thrombosis and possibly a pulmonary embolus? There are plenty of qualified surgeons in Atlanta who perform this procedure and can follow you until you are fully recovered.Yes, based on your photos it appears you could have a nice result from TT and lipo.

I think I will be more direct -- Are you crazy?? Most patients from out of town in USA stay at least 1 week. Flying can increase the incidence of bleeds, emboli, etc. especially following a full TT and lipo. Sounds like you are flying to DR --- BIG MISTAKE!!! Stay close to home or in USA..
