Can Ultherapy cause hair loss in women?

Question

I had the Ultherapy treatment done 2 weeks ago and since then I have had a lot more strands of my hair coming out at a time. I wouldn't say chuncks of hair but several times I have quite a bit that comes out, way more than I ever had before. Previously I would have a couple strands here and there through out the day fall out but now its like 15 or 20 each time. It just seems odd that I noticed the change just since I had the Ultherapy.

Ultherapy is usually done on the face and the ultrasound energy directed at that area to tighten the skin does not radiate to the scalp. There should be no direct cause for hair loss.  There has not been beard loss with facial Ultherapy on men.  Some people develop hair loss months after a stressful period, but not two weeks later.Hair loss should be evaluated by a dermatologist.

I am not aware of Ulthera causing hair loss. Check with your primary care physician and/ or a dermatologist for other causes.

I have never heard of hair loss occurring after an Ultherapy treatment. I think that the timing of this is a pure coincidence. You may want to see your primary care physician or a dermatologist to explore other causes of possible hair loss. Best of luck to you.

I have never had a patient get hair loss after an Ultherapy treatment, nor have I heard of any reported side effects of hair loss.  I would consider consulting with a dermatologist to see if your hair loss might be from another cause.

It is highly unlikely that Ultherapy is causing your increased hair loss. We have never had a patient with that complaint in our office before. Ultrasound energy is very safe. I would recommend that you see your primary care physician to rule out any other health issues that might be causing the hair loss.
