Silicone nodules can be challenging to treat. Antiinflammatory treatment can be helpful. Surgery can be challenging but is an option. I would not recommend using Ulthera over silicone nodules.
Silicone injections give permanent results but sometimes there is an immune reaction and these granulomas can occur more than twenty years after the injections. I have seen patients who had these lumps far away from the area of injection. I have not tried Ultherapy to break up the lumps and wonder if that may cause them to migrate further.
Hi G,Sorry to hear about your delayed bumps from Silicone injections 13 years. Unfortunately that is the problem with permanent fillers. Many times the body may react and form lumps, bumps, granulomas in response to the foreign material and it may take years to form. It is a difficult problem to take care of. Ultherapy, though effective as the best lifting and tightening device on the market, is not effective at getting rid Silicone. The only treatment is surgical excision. Good luck and be well.Dr. P
Unfortunately there are many people in your position. Free silicone in tissues destroys local vascularity and erodes healthy tissue. This can happen quickly or over years/decaces depending on the amount placed and the location and depth it is placed. I rescue patients with free silicone using a combination of fat/stem cell grafting and carefully planned excision depending on the location and quality of tissues. Ulthera will only cause further devascularization and scarring and should be avoided. I hope this helps! All the best,Rian A. Maercks M.D.
Silicone is a permanent injectable filler (that is not FDA-approved for that purpose). Once injected, the silicone remains in the body forever. If any issues, like bumps, do develop, they can be difficult to treat. I have not used Ultherapy to try and treat silicone bumps on the face, but I do not think that it would help. Sometimes, bumps that form from silicone need to be surgically removed.
Hi,Silicione causes what we call a granulomatous reaction which is a combination of excess collagen with inflammation. I would be hesitant to do Ultherapy over those areas on the chance that it could worsen the reaction. I agree with other physicians that you are safer following the standard treatments for silicone reactions.Warmly,Dr.Grace Liu
Sorry to hear about your problem. As said below, Ulthera is an excellent tool but not for this indication. I'd be concerned that the heat might cause more inflammation and potentially make the problem worse. Staying away from further silicone is best but standard treatment is to inject with low does kenalog and off label 5fu injections can be helpful. Surgery may be a better option than Ulthera if the injections don't help.best of luck!
It's doubtful that Ultherapy would help dissolve lumps or bumps that appear after silicone injections. Though the heat generated by the device may be helpful, there is no know benefit and there is no FDA indication to use it that way. Steroid injections may be more beneficial and at worst excision may be necessary.
Ultherapy is not FDA approved for this indication and not likely to help dissolve such silicone bumps. To read the Ultherapy book go to the link beow.
Ultherapy will tighten and lift skin but when used with the current transducers has not been demonstrated to cause injury to facial fat. Well nasolabial folds may or may not improve following Ultherapy treatment, they would not be expected to worsen.
I have had many patients very happy with their success in seeing the jowls raise after Ultherapy. I can't comment on a home unit of which I have no knowledge, nor can I say that I see photos of worse jowls. Some people do have swelling that make the jowls look heavier for the first...
In a word, absolutely. Thermage does not predispose the skin for impaired healing and Ultherapy treats the skin at a deeper level than Thermage. I have provided these treatments with short intervals in between many times without any adverse events.
