6 weeks post tummy tuck, concerned about the drainage. Any suggestions?

If the fluid is clear it will eventually stop. A tight abdominal binder is the key to getting the flaps to stick back down. Empty the drain as often as you can and keep it striped. Call your plastic surgeon about alternatives of treatment and follow his instructions. Consider restricting your activities to the minimum to allow the lymphatics to rest. It takes a lot of patience of the surgeon and the patient for these fluid discharges to resolve. They always do.... your tummy is going to look better. Good luck

Your question is confusing??? You still have drain tube on left AFTER 6 WEEKS???? That is draining over 25 cc's every 24hours??? Sounds like a seroma pocket has occurred. Best to see Dr Joseph in person for a detailed discussion.... 

thank you for your question.  Typically, drains average staying in place 10 days to 2 weeks after an abdominoplasty.  If you have liposuction in combination with your tummy tuck, they may need to be in longer.  Based on the output you are mentioning, that is still an amount that I would not remove the drain.  At some point though, the drain could be causing the fluid to persist and may need to be removed.  After removing the drain, it is possible that fluid could accumulate or that your symptoms are evidence of a seroma.  Of course, everything I am discussing are generalities and I recommend you follow up closely with your surgeon so they can examine you and make an informed decision on the best approach to proceed with your care.  Good luck!
