Wide nose with large hanging ala, what are my options?

Your nasal tip and alar skin appears thick and oily, but your nasal base does not appear too wide. Your "hanging ala" on profile may not be lifted, but nasal lengthening may be considered for a relatively short nasal appearance and retracted columella. Hope this helps you. Dr Joseph

The length of your nose seems proportional to your face, but the nostrils are wide and the tip is bulbous. You’d benefit from surgical rhinoplasty to improve your nose so that it is better balanced with your face. I would thin out the tissue, refine the tip, and narrow the alar region to give you a nose that is less prominent on your face and allows the viewer to focus on your eyes and lips. A tip rhinoplasty to reduce the boxyness of the tip and reduce the alar width and hanging with excision in the mucosal surface would be indicated.

photograph, you may benefit from a tip refining rhinoplasty.  You may also benefit from an alar base reduction.  Make sure you specifically look at
before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed
by your surgeon and not just a computer animation system.
The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I
recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic
surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

The thick skin makes it impossible to give your nose a lot of definition. The only thing that will work is an alarplasty to narrow the nostrils. RegardsDr. Janjua

Klaufis, it appears from the pictures that you have very thick nasal skin.  It can be difficult to achieve the desired definition and narrowness of the tip in patients with thick skin.  However, in most cases significant improvement can be made.  You should consult an experienced board certified facial plastic surgeon for an in-person evaluation.  Best wishes, Dr. Roberts

Every nose is
different and unique to that individual. If the appearance of your nose
concerns you enough to do something about it, it can be improved with a natural
artistically performed rhinoplasty. What would be the best option and exact
procedure would depend on an in person examination (not just an online
consultation) and discussion about desired outcome. Excellent results can
be achieved with either a closed or open technique.
Keep in mind that following advice from a surgeon on this or any other website
who proposes to tell you exactly what to do and how technically to do
it based on two dimensional photos without examining you, physically
feeling your tissue, assessing your desired outcome, taking a full medical
history and discussing the pros and cons of the operative procedure would not
be in your best interest. Natural appearing results need to be individualized
and what is appropriate for one patient is not necessarily the best for someone
else. I would suggest that you find a surgeon with extensive rhinoplasty
experience certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and one who is
ideally a member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that
surgeon in person.

As a art student, from the LA County Museum of Art, I like to use advanced suturing techniques to narrow the tip of the nose. An alar rim reduction with a Sheen flap will reduce the width of you nostrils. I incorporate the FINNESSE technique, which I invented. Pain, bruising and recovery are minimal when compared to traditional techniques. I routinely do not pack the nose. I hope you find this information useful.
