Is the hyperbaric chamber treatment after a mommy makeover worth it?

There's no good evidence to support the use of hyperbaric oxygen for "enhanced wound healing" in a normally-healing, complication free tummy tuck.  However, if you had a serious circulation problem with the flap with impending tissue necrosis, that might be a reason.All the best,

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy after a mommy makeover is not a regular adjunct and I do not think the risk:reward ratio warrants this type of treatment. The effects of hyperbaric are temporary in nature and only have specific indications for use.  Speak to your doctor and voice your concerns, they should be able to provide you with the information to make the best decision. There is no good reason to undergo hyperbaric treatments if you do not have wound healing problem. Hyperbaric treatments have risks as well. So if you are a good candidate for surgery with no healing issues I would not recommend it.Good luck!

Thank you for your question.  There is no data in the literature to support hyperbaric oxygen therapy after routine uncomplicated surgery.  There are very specific indications for hyperbaric oxygen therapy as hyperbaric oxygen therapy is not without risk.  I would discuss this with your plastic surgeon further and really find out why he or she feels like ou may or may not need this.
