I am looking to see if there are any offers out there that help woman who desperately need it. I am an abuse survivor and now single mother trying to re establish life. During my abusive relationship and after two children I have put on excessive weight. I used to have goals continuing my career in law enforcement as I was participating in the Sheriff explorer program as a young girl. Would like to finally continue this. My body is an emotional downer, recently had gastric bypass.

Answer: Elective surgery So sorry to hear about your struggles. If you call one of the universities near you (Loma Linda University or USC), there may be an option to have a surgery done for a lesser cost thru the residency programs. Frequently they have a cosmetic rotation with plastic surgery residents that provide a discounted rate for patients seeking elective cosmetic surgery. It is not pro bono but it is a discounted rate I believe. Best of luck,Andrew Cohen MD

Answer: Pro Bono Cosmetic Surgery I am so sorry to hear of your past difficulties and commend you for making a new start. Pro Bono plastic surgery is an all too common request. Some of the requests are sincere, some have less than honest motives. There may be support groups that can assist in your cause, and I encourage you to research the possibilities. When undergoing a plastic surgical procedure, particularly body rejuvenation such as breast and abdominal enhancement, you have to consider it isn't just the plastic surgeon who is donating his or her services. While you may find a plastic surgeon willing to help, you still have two more entities that will need to agree. The anesthesia provider will be asked to donate their services, as well as the facility in which the surgery is performed. If the plastic surgeon paid those fees as part of his or her generosity, the surgeon would actually be losing money, not just donating services. The procedures you mentioned, combined, can range from $7,500 all the way to $15,000 depending on the complexity of the case. Those costs would include the facility and anesthesia costs, as well as surgical costs.I wish you good luck.
