Should I finish my chest tattoos before or after breast implants? Will the stretching look horrible? (photo)

I have many chest tattoos, and still need to finish them. Is it wise to get them finished first and then get implants? Or is it better to tattoo over the implants? Will the stretching look horrible?

It’s difficult to say how your tattoos will look after your surgery. They may or may not be negatively affected. It’s probably a more prudent choice to get your tattoos completed after breast augmentation, just in case.

I believe you will do well either way, but doing the tattoos after the augmentation may give you the ability to hide any scars from the surgery better.

Great question!  I would get the breast augmentation first then finish the tattooing.  The stretching of the skin after surgery can warp the tattoo, so its best to make sure this is set first, before finishing up with tattoo.Best of luck and hope this information helps!

The amount of tissue stretch will depend on the size and shape of the implants that you will have. The appearance of the tattoos will also depend on their exact location, as some parts of the breasts will be more stretched than others. Generally, tattoos are advisable after you have fully healed from the surgery given that there are no complications. The best resource of information would be your board certified plastic surgeon as he/she will know your condition best and will be able to give the best advice.

Certainly implants will increase the size of your breasts and cause the skin to stretch. This stretch can, at times, be somewhat unpredictable though probably not significant.  Therefore I would recommend proceeding with the breast augmentation and following with the tattooing.  This will insure that the tattoos will appear as they were intended.

In my experience, patients with chest wall tattoos tend to do very well;  I have not heard reports that the patients feel that their tattoos have "stretched or looked horrible".   I think you will be fine either way but, if in doubt, probably best to undergo breast augmentation surgery first and then complete the tattooing process. Best wishes.
