Today I'm currently at 16 days post op and feel that I'm slowly but surely making good progress. I'm an avid gym/sauna goer and was wondering when it'll be safe for me to enter extreme temperatures and start exerting myself at the gym. I don't want to jeopardize the integrity of my results and recovery. Additionally, when will I project to have full range of my upper lip? I'll like to smile again but feel that my upper lip is very "tight" don't want to ruin anything that's still healing.
Answer: Activity following rhinoplasty Your timing is perfect. Though I always address the question about exercise following rhinoplasty and other plastic procedures, I just had one of my patients inquire as to the safety and timing of a sauna. In my opinion, keeping exercise and extreme temperatures to a minimum for the first three weeks and then easing into exercise over the next three weeks will enable you to feel good and maintain your physical and mental sanity, while minimizing potential adverse effects to your surgical procedure. I fear that exercise and sauna too prematurely will lead to prolonged swelling of the nose, especially of the tip. Your surgeon may have another opinion and I would definitely pose the same question to them.

Answer: Sauna and gym after rhinoplasty Thanks for asking. Talk with your plastic surgeon as he/she knows what to expect from your specific case. Rhinoplasty surgery is often very individualized and what you need may vary from another person. I usually allow more extreme temperatures after some time and after full healing in my patients. This also pertains to the upper lip which is still early in the healing. Talk with your surgeon. Good luck

Answer: Rhinoplasty activity Only your surgeon knows exactly what was done during your operation. I would suggest speaking with them in regards to post-operative instructions.

Answer: Rhinoplasty and exercise Usually I let my patients go back to light aerobics within about 3-4 weeks and heavy lifting by about 6-8 weeks. Best to ask your surgeon.
