Would Coolsculpting get rid of bad Fat Transfer above upper lip? (photo)

Question

I had a bad fat injection/transplant to my lips. I had fat transplanted from my stomach to my lips 12 years ago. The doctor did a terrible job, and I did not do any research. I still have fat ABOVE my lip. It has distorted my smile. This fat pushes the red part of my lip down making my lips further from my nose. I had a fabulous smile before the surgery. =/ I have researched for years on how to get this removed. Would cool sculpting get rid of bad fat transfer above upper lip?

Hello Mpharo4249-I am so sorry to hear you are having problems with your fat injection/transfer. Unfortunately, at this time, ZELTIQ (CoolSculpting) does not have the ability nor the FDA clearance for treatment of the face. The best  advice I would have, is to follow-up with a  Board Certified plastic surgeon to discuss your concerns, problems, and expectations. You have a multiple options to help your situation. Unfortunately Zeltiq the company that makes the Coolsculpting device has yet to gain FDA approval for any indication on the face. As of now Coolsculpting is limited predominantly to the body. I would recommend that you meet with a local plastic surgeon to discuss surgical options for fat removal. Best of luck.

There is not a cool sculpting applicator for the lip area.  So, it's not an option for you.Other possibilities include:  micro-liposuction of the area, steroid injection, or when it becomes FDA approved, ATX-101.Best to see a local Board-certified PS to discuss the options.

Coolsculpting currently only treats areas of the body such as hips, thighs, and abdomen. Coolsculpting’s applicators would be way too large to treat a small area like the lip. One can try steroid injections or microliposuction

There are not yet any CoolSculpting applicators that have been developed to treat any part of the face or neck, including the lips, so CoolSculpting would not be an option for you to help with the fat in your upper lip after a fat transfer.  It is possible that the lip might be able to be improved with surgery, but you would need to be examined to determine if you might be a candidate for such a procedure.

CoolSculpting is not available for the lips.  However, an #injectable medication for local fat reduction is undergoing trials for FDA approval, and when available conceivably could be tried for your problem.

There are not any studies to support coolsculpting to facial features and there are not any coolsculpting applicators suitable to treat the upper lip at the present.
