Can I have Lipo instead of a tummy tuck? (Photo)

The answer to this question is based on what you think is appropriate for you and not what the surgeon recommends.   It depends on how invasive of procedure you would like and since you don't mind the stretch marks and some loose skin it is not right to impose tummy tuck on you.  It is best to develop a rapport and understanding with a surgeon that cares for you and what you want to do with your body and achieve what you have in mind.  These procedures are personal choice and with correct guidance and looking at a portfolio of surgeon with at least 15 years of surgical experience you may be in good hands.

Based on your photo, you are not a candidate for liposuction alone.  Your skin has lost elasticity after multiple pregnancies and liposuction will make your skin look looser and droopier.  As you lose more weight you will see that your skin will look worse.  Vaser or Smart Lipo may help in conjunction with a tummy tuck but not in place of it.   Another benefit of a tummy tuck is that it will repair your abdominal muscles that have separated in the midline and give you your core strength back as well as a better waistline. I would advise against doing liposuction and waiting until you are at your goal weight to consult with board certified plastic surgeons in your area.  Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your post. It appears from your pictures that you would be a great candidate for both liposuction and a tummy tuck. Both of these procedures combined would give you the best results and contouring. I would recommend setting up a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to review all of the best options for you. Liposuction should allow you to have the flatter abdomen that you desire.

Thank you for your question and photo. Based on this photo and height and weight, your BMI is 29, you do have loose skin, with lots of stretch marks (poor elasticity). The upper abdominal skin has better elasticity. Liposuction vs tummy tuck; depends what your goal is, how much loose skin is "not too loose" for you, Ok with abdomen not being flat (pregnancy creates muscle separation in the midline).You would do well with VASER Hi Def Liposuction of your whole abdomen, back, waist, hips, lateral chest wall to help with maximum skin tighten 360 degrees. It is difficult to predict how much tightening your lower abdominal skin will undergo. In any case, you are not wasting your money on lipo, since this will give you an excellent shape improvement. A tummy tuck can be done later if you are not happy with the loose skin. Based on your photo, I personally would approach your body contouring in two stages as I described. See a board certified plastic surgeon experienced in advanced body sculpting techniques for an in person consultation/evaluation. Good luck.

Dear niove1213,Its difficult to tell without examining you but from your photos you would benefit the most from a Tummy Tuck. Heres why:
Liposuction gets rid of excess fat. You have laxity of your skin based on the shadows portrayed in your photo. Liposuction alone would alone make this more lax and likely make the appearance less aesthetically pleasing.
A mini tummy tuck is great if you are just looking to flatten the skin below the belly button. It does nothing for the skin above the belly button. 
A full tummy tuck address all of the skin laxity and abdominal wall laxity. It repositions your umbilicus as well. It costs more and has more downtime associated then either of the above.
I would recommend consulting with a plastic surgeon that can go over in detail these three options and spends time answering your questions.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS

Obviously, you are a great candidate for a tummy tuck but I understand the reluctance for many reasons.  I have performed liposculpting many times on patients such as yourself.  As long as there is fat to be removed, then there will be a change in shape and size.  Regarding the front of your abdomen, the end result is a smaller version of the current you.  Yes, your skin may look a little deflated compared to the current appearance, but I'm always surprised how much is actually shrinks back.  Your skin won't be tighter than it is now but your abdomen will be flatter as long as you have a reasonable amount of fat to be removed.  Regarding your waist, this will be a lot more curvy.  So, the end result won't make you bikini ready but you'll look a lot better in clothes. 

Based on your pictures, you aren't a candidate for liposuction alone, but need a tummy tuck to improve skin laxity. For best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction, which can be performed at the same time as a tummy tuck, depending on skin laxity. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result. After reviewing your photo, I would recommend a full tummy tuck combined with liposuction. A full tummy tuck corrects the aftermath of pregnancy:
1.  The separation of the abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) is repaired to reduce the bulge
2.  The loose skin is tightened
3.  Fat deposits can be reduced with liposuction
Liposuction alone would not correct the bulge due to the muscle separation or the loose skin and would, in all likelihood, lead to a disappointing result for you. 
I would recommend a consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
