I am 5 weeks post-op and it seems that incision under my right breast is not healing properly if compared to my left one. My surgeon told me I need to put on some tape and and move the wound edges closer to each other so it could heal better. Do I really need to just "squeeze" the skin together and put on the tape? Is the scar gonna look ugly now? I am really nervous...
Answer: Breast augmentaiton scars Many thanks for your question. From your picture it appears that the right breast incision separated following surgery which has left a wide scar. At this stage taping will not successfully narrow this. However it is still worth taping to provide support to the scar as it settles and matures. You can expect this scar to fade over time but you will be left with a wider scar compared to the left side. All scars become less prominent over time and the redness fades so this difference will become less apparent over the next 6-12 months. At least the scar appear close to the fold under your breast and so they are less visible as other areas of the breast or chest wall. You have the option when things have settled to have the scar revised under local anaesthetic if you find it unsightly. I would consult your surgeon in person and be guided by them going forward. All the very best, Jonathan

Answer: Scar It appears from your photo that your scar has widened. Taping the scar at this time will not help it become thinner. Scars take up to one year to mature. You may wish to discuss scar therapies with your surgeon to help with the appearance. Once matured, you can consider scar revision if you still have concerns.

Answer: Is my incision healing properly after BA? I'm 5 weeks post op. (photos) There is no one best therapy for scars. Silicone sheets, Mederma, and Biocorneum are reasonable and popular options. I recommend that the scar therapy begin after the scars have healed and there are no open areas, which usually takes 4 to 6 weeks. As scars mature over months to a year, the quality of the scar usually improves. There is almost always lightening of the scars. If these continue to be an issue, scar revision is probably the most reliable option. The color of the scar can be improved by a variety of modalities. Answer: Scarring Thank you for your question. Typically scars take up to a year and a half to heal completely. Using certain scar creams will be helpful. I typically recommend using Biocornium cream. If we fast forward to a year or so down the road and your still not happy you can always discuss having a scar revision. I would suggest giving it a little more time and then discussing with your surgeon.

Answer: Wound separation It does appear as if you have some wound separation on the right side. Putting tape on is intended to "splint" and support the scar. Once our patient's wounds have completely healed, we have them begin applying scar cream to help the scar mature. You might check with your surgeon to see if this is something they recommend.
