33Y F who has developed a double chin and undefined jaw in 30s. Partly slight weight gain, however I am a healthy weight / BMI. My chin seems to have recessed as I’ve aged and gained weight around my jaw and neck. Would like to know the best treatment/s for this. Lipo? Neck lift? Filler? Botox? Orthodontics?
Answer: Neck Lift, Chin liposuction, chin augmentation, Neck liposuction, Chin Implant Hello vkduffro, Thank you for reaching out with your question about treatment options for a double chin and a weak, undefined jawline. Based on your description and photos, your concerns involve a receded chin, excess neck skin, and excess neck fat. Here are some potential treatment options to consider: Chin Implant: To address a receded chin, a chin implant could be a suitable solution. Chin implants can enhance the jawline's definition and improve facial balance. The implant can be inserted through an incision inside the mouth or under the chin. This procedure can be performed under local anesthesia or in a general operating room setting. Neck Liposuction: For the excess neck fat, neck liposuction could be an effective treatment, especially considering your age. Liposuction can remove unwanted fat and can often lead to a positive re-draping of the neck skin, especially in younger patients with good skin elasticity. Neck Lift: If there is concern about the neck skin not adequately retracting post-liposuction (which may be less likely at your age), a neck lift might be considered. In a neck lift, incisions are typically made around the ears, and the procedure involves lifting and resuspending the neck skin and fat to achieve a more defined and tightened appearance. Both the chin implant and neck contouring procedures can be done separately or in combination, depending on the specific aesthetic goals and recommendations of your plastic surgeon. Orthodontics and Oral Surgery: Regarding orthodontic considerations, an evaluation by an orthodontist or oral surgeon would be necessary. They can assess your bite and dental alignment to determine if any orthodontic treatment is needed, which could also impact the appearance of your jawline. It’s important to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon and possibly an orthodontist or oral surgeon to discuss these options and decide which treatment plan best suits your needs and goals. I hope this provides a helpful overview of your potential treatment options. Wishing you the best as you explore these possibilities and move forward with your plans. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen
