Is the rib graft too large and visible? (Photo)

Question

8 months ago I had a rhinoplasty with a solid rib graft. I have developed a bump on the top of the graft which is visible. I thought this would go over time however there has not been any improvement. The bump itself it quite hard and I suspect that it might be the graft which is too big and causing this. What are my options getting this resolved? Will I require a revision rhinoplasty or can this be rasped down?

Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photographs and description, it appears you had a dorsal onlay rib graft. These often have the exact problem that you are describing. I would recommend a revision with removal of the rib graft and replacement with diced cartilage wrapped in fascia as a dorsal onlay. With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.
