Why would a surgeon use dermal filler after a rhinoplasty?

Hi, I recently had a rhinoplasty and for my 3 week check in, the surgeon used dermal filler. Would this compromise the outcome in any way? Why would he use temporary filler right after a permanent procedure? At the time I didn't realize what he was doing, but because he was being kind of dodgy when I asked questions, I went home and researched it. Thank you in advance.

Hi there! If filler was placed after rhinoplasty, there's a good chance it's being used to improve an imperfection such as a divot. This may be a temporizing measure. It usually doesn't compromise the outcome unless there's an issue with significant inflammation after injection. I don't often advocate for filler in the nose due to the risk of scarring - especially after a rhinoplasty. Hope this helps!

Nasal fillers are effective in making corrections after rhinoplasty surgery without the need for revision surgery. This gives us a chance to revise your nose so you won't need to go through another operation. Simple deformities are corrected with a filler. Your doctor needs to be very careful during the injection process because your skin is very sensitive due to recent surgery. Please make sure to ask your surgeon the reason for this procedure as he knows your history the best. Good luck with your recovery.

It seems as there is part of the result the surgeon is not happy with and he’s using the filler to camouflage that aspect in hopes it will fix it. This is never a long term fix and the issue presents itself again 6-8 months later. The only filler that may help right after surgery is radiesse as it is calcium based and has a better chance of staying.
