I have a holiday booked for 12th April 2023 but hoping to have surgery start of Feb. Is this too soon after surgery? How long is advised before going abroad and can flying cause any problems with recovery? Thank you

Answer: Postoperative protocol Dear o123456, I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors. It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery. Answer: Always best to check with your surgeon's protocol I advise my patients no swimming or tanning for six weeks; no gym for three weeks. I recommend on average a week before flying just to recuperate from surgery. I did have a patient fly the day after breast augmentation and lift surgery from Philadelphia, Pa. to Utah with no problems. Dr. Ted Eisenberg, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Author.
