I am interested in getting rhinoplasty - looking to remove the bump on my bridge and make my nostrils smaller. Do you think this can be achieved? Also, I'm not sure if I have a slight deviation in my septum - I struggle to breathe when lying on my side. Additionally, how long does the bruising and swelling last?

Answer: Candidate for rhinoplasty Hi Chlo98! Thanks for your question. At least from your photos, you are certainly a candidate for rhinoplasty. A surgical rhinoplasty would be able to lower your dorsum (remove the bump) and also de-rotate and de-project the tip of the nose so that your nostrils show less on both the front and side views. Also, with cartilage grafting and special maneuvers like an alar base excision (Weir excision), the nostril size can be decreased further and the ala can be better supported. Bruising after a rhinoplasty is nearly resolved at 1 week and almost always fully resolved at 2 weeks. Swelling can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks or longer depending on your anatomy and the extent of the surgery. I always counsel my patients that in some cases for primary rhinoplasty, the final "product" is really not visible until 1 year.

Answer: Rhinoplasty Thank you for your questions and sharing your photographs. In your situation, the nostril show is mostly driven by the low position of the nostril sill. It would benefit from lifting slightly the upper lip and reducing the prominence of the base of the columella. It can be combined with a slight downward rotation of the nasal tip but this is not critical. Reducing the nasal bridge bump can be achieved through a variety of techniques and ultrasonic rhinoplasty tends to produce good results without the impression that the bridge has become wider. Treatment for the septal deviation is part of the rhinoplasty procedure to try and create an appearance of the nasal bridge and tip that is more symmetric. In your case, the nasal bridge appears to be slightly deviated to the left. In addition to management of septal deviation, it is possible to adjust the position of the lower turbinates to assist with the nasal airway.
