Answer: Rhinoplasty Thank you for your question. I would advise proper rest, be in good health, no smoking of drinking 3 weeks before surgery.

Answer: Optimal healing for rhinoplasty In order to increase your chances of healing quickly after surgery, I recommend you avoid smoking or any other tobacco products for a minimum of 1 month before and 1 month after surgery. Additionally, be sure to eat a well balanced diet with lots of fruits and veggies, meats, and healthy fats. Try to minimize inflammatory foods such as grains, dairy, sugars and alcohol. Some people also find that arnica is helpful along with papain and bromelain extract.

Answer: What steps can I take to prepare for rhinoplasty to improve healing time? Ask your plastic surgeon for his/her pre and post operative guidelines and follow them.STOP SMOKING: Smoking reduces circulation to the skin and impedes healing. It is best to avoid smoking, second hand smoke and cigarette replacements, such as nicotine patches or gum, in the perioperative period. While you should ideally stop smoking for 2 weeks before and after your surgical procedure, YOU MUST NOT SMOKE FOR A MINIMUM OF 24 HOURS BEFORE AND 24 HOURS AFTER SURGERY.TAKE MULTIVITAMINS: Start taking multivitamins twice daily to improve your general health once you have scheduled your surgery.TAKE VITAMIN C: Start taking 500 mg of Vitamin C twice daily to promote healing.START TAKING AN IRON SUPPLEMENT: A good iron supplement, such as Feosol, is required starting one week before surgery and four weeks following surgery. Bowel movements may appear darker than usual as a result. Feosol is available without prescription.DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN OR IBUPROFEN: Stop taking medications containing aspirin or ibuprofen. Review the list of drugs containing aspirin and ibuprofen carefully. Such drugs can cause bleeding problems during and after surgery. Instead, use medications containing acetaminophen (such as Tylenol).LIMIT VITAMIN E: Limit your intake of Vitamin E to less than 400 mg per day.Procure your prescriptions prior to your surgery. Arnica and Bromelain have been suggested to reduce postoperative bruising. Arnica pills are fine, but I am not sure how helpful they are. The bruising that is present improves and disappears over the first few weeks.

Answer: Healing, bruising and swelling after rhinoplasty may vary. We use Arnica for all of our rhinoplasty patients, but there is no scientific data to support that it truly works. It can't hurt. Some patients come for a reveal and have minimal bruising, and some patients look like they were in the ring with Rocky. All bruising and swelling fades, and the recovery is largely painless regardless of the bruising. Hope this helps. Dr Joseph

Answer: Surgery preparation Hello,Thank you for your question. Since rhinoplasty is an elective surgery all health issues needs to be resolved, no smoking at least 6 months before the surgery, immune-enhancing nutrition and optimizing the skins present condition could be useful in terms of healing process. Best Regards
