Is this extreme swelling after Princess fillers normal? (Photos)

Question

I got princess fillers yesterday in my bottom lip to even it out as it’s always been naturally wonky. I got 0.5ml injected. It looked great but last night it suddenly went very swollen and painful. Have I had some sort of reaction or is this normal? I was drinking tea a lot last night thinking herbal tea would help. Could the heat have just irritated it?

Hello,Princess fillers are not approved for use in the United States.  However, this kind of swelling is not too unusual for some.  Of course, we recommend that you ask your injector if this is expected with your filler product.  We advise our patients to use gentle icing for the first 24 hours (off and on), with Benadryl and Ibuprofen.  Resist the urge to massage or manipulate as this will often make the swelling worse.  Expected swelling improves with each passing day.  If this is not the case for you, please report it.

Hi mewberry645,Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a substance  that is like your own but by nature draws water. Your swelling is substantial and pooling of fluid due to your position while sleeping can aggravate the swelling.Other factors can worsen it like intake of some supplements before the injection, exercising vigorously after the procedure, injection technique and type of filler used. Restylane Refyne usually has the least swelling.The swelling may last for a week or so. Follow your doctor's instructions to ice periodically. Ask about arnica. The swelling should start subsiding in a couple of days. All the best,Mary
