What should I cover my breast augmentation scars with when tanning? Going on holiday next week and worried!

Keep the sun away from scars is your best bet. Scars behave differently in different people and can become too dark permanently (hyperpigmentation or dyschromia) if exposed to the sun. Better to spray tan if you want to hide it. Definitely use a strong SPF (>30) sunscreen on it even though it is hidden by your bathing suit as some sun goes through the fabric.#tanningpostop#scarmanagement

Thanks for the question. A swim suit or any article of clothing should provide enough coverage for the incisions. If you feel the need to take extra precautions, you could cover the incisions in bandages. Hi. The sun's rays are able to penetrate most bathing suit fabrics. Practicing out of Mimai, Florida where women go to the beach all year round, I advice them to put sun block at the incision site. A phyisical block is the best. One that contains Zinc or Titanium. Good luck and enjoy. Dr. PG

Thank you for your question.  Keeping your incisions covered with your swimsuit is probably sufficient.  If you would like to be extra careful, cover the incisions with a bandaid or steri strips beneath your swimsuit.Best of luck,

Hi.. thank you for the question... Due to the face that you just have 5 weeks post-surgery, i will suggest you to protect your scars with brown tape or steristrip...  

Thank you for your question. I recommend patients either affix a bandaid type block to the skin (steristrip, brown tape, etc) or apply an excellent sunblock containing either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.  

This is a good question. If the scars are still biologically active meaning that there is some redness present, covering the scar with something that is impervious to ultraviolet light such as a piece of tape would suffice.

For sure at 5 weeks post op of Breast Lift you still have swelling and the scars are still  in healing process. Taking sun wil undoubtedly  will darken your incisions and all of the swollen areas.Steri strip wont be enough (ate least here in our caribbean sun). Use sun screen to block UV rays, there are bathing suits also with this properties and try to be extra cover by and umbrella or clothes.
