Why is one areola bigger than the other? (Photo)

Question

24 days post op and just had my tape removed today and a few stitches. I am starting on scar cream/sheets. The assistant said everything looked great. That the areola would even out over time. The smaller areola looks very puckered and not smooth while the other side it even and has smooth suture lines. Is this normal for them to look this far off from each other. The areola just seem like one is a penny and the other is a quarter.

I agree they look different if you focus on the areolas, but the breasts and even the nipples are actually symmetric, which is a great start. Over the next year, your body will smooth the scars, and changes from swelling and gravity will help even out the areola size. If you're not happy at 3 to 6 months, your surgeon can most likely fix it under local anesthesia. Best wishes.

Hello,Puckering around an areolar incision is normal shortly after surgery and the breasts do not always heal at the same pace. Continue with your post op treatments as directed by your Plastic Surgeon and hopefully you will see more even results in a few months.All the best!

Breasts almost never heal symmetrically so asymmetric areola are fairly common. This will improve as the swelling subsides.

This  degree of areola asymmetry is very common and most often evens out within the next 6-12 months. Revision surgery  is usually simple if it is needed at all, but it is important for  all the effects of  swelling and skin tension  to redistribute  across the diameter of the areola first. I would wait for a period of 6-12 weeks from surgery prior to being concern.  To make them more even is pretty straightforward and could be done under local anesthesia.  However, you would still need to get through the healing period to allow for your breast result to be stable.

Yes it is different and your breasts are a bit different as well. I would suggest waiting 4 months. If still way too different to you then I bet your doc can fix inn the office in 30 minutes or so. Good luck!

Thank you for your question concerning the symmetry of your
areolas.  I do agree that they look different.  However, you are
still very early in the healing process.  The swelling and scars will
improve over the next year as well as your breast symmetry.  Continue
follow up visits as recommended by your surgeon and if still unhappy with the
appearance of your breast at 3-4 months, speak with him/her about revising
