Emsculpt Protocol 1 vs Protocol 2?

Question

Is there really a difference between the settings/protocol used on the abs vs glutes? I know protocol 2 is supposed to conserve all the fat and only burn muscle but does it make a big difference? I think my doctor has been using protocol 1 on my glutes instead of protocol 2 and I'm wondering if it will make my butt flatter

Hello and Thank you for your question. 
Both protocols may be used for the glute area. We have not experienced any fat loss with protocols 1 when it comes to the glute area. Although, you may choose to just use protocol 2 for muscle gain without RF.

At our office, I prefer to use TruSculpt FLEX which is the only device on the market that can treat up to eight separate areas simultaneously. Hi Jess,Congratulations on your Emsculpt journey.  Not to worry.  I have not heard of any problems with gross fat loss on the buttocks, nor have we seen any problems with flattening of the butt from using Protocol 1.  With that said, you are correct that Protocol 2 is used in those patients who wish to preserve as much fat as possible during their Emsculpt sessions.  Please let your treating physician know which Protocol you prefer to use prior to your next and future Emsculpt treatments.  Good luck and be well.  Dr. PEncino, CA

This is a great question, and yes there is a difference between the two. Protocol 1 is used to burn fat while Protocol 2 is used to mainly focus on building muscle. Both Protocols may be used in the abdominal and glutes area. However, to distinguish which Protocol is right for a patient it is important to understand their end goals. Hope this helps you!

Protocol 1 also can diminish fat as well as increase muscle mass. Protocol 2 is mostly for muscle. Protocol 1 is used for the abdomen. This is the recommendation from the BTL company as well as this is where they are seeing the best results. Technically, however, either can be used anywhere!

Hi, 
This is a great question, and yes there is a difference. It is fairly simple, protocol 1 has more capacity to diminish fat, while protocol #2 preserves the fat. This distinction is primarily so that the fat in the tush area does not decrease as many people want the fat to remain there. We ask our clients which they would prefer, and sometimes we use protocol #1 on the glutes, but I would say most prefer to keep the fat. I would as the doctor performing the emsculpt to put you on protocol #2, if he refuses, this would be weird. Perhaps he is making a judgement without consulting you for your preference and your goals.

Yes, there are two types of settings for Emsculpt treatment.  Protocol 1 is designed to build muscle and destroy the overlying fat. Protocol 2, designed specifically for treatment of the buttocks, allows for muscle building without targeting the fat. This lets us lift and tighten the buttocks without losing any volume. To ensure safe and effective treatment, I suggest making an appointment with a board certified plastic surgeon for consultation before undergoing Emsculpt treatment.

Hello and thanks for your question. Each protocol is used for a different concern- we would use protocol 1 for the abdomen as it destroys fat cells more effectively than protocol 2. For most of our patients protocol 2 suits as it helps strengthen, lift and develop the buttock muscles. Always go to a qualified and experienced practitioner, best wishes
