Is dry and flaking skin normal after breast augmentation?

It's been over 2 weeks since my breast augmentation. Couple days ago I started noticing dandruff in my post op bra. And the skin around my areola's have dry flaky skin coming off. Is this normal?

This is very common after breast augmentation and is worse when the breast skin is very tight. This will generally resolve without consequence in about 1-2 weeks.Congratulations on your new breasts!

Thank you for submitting this question.  It is very common to have some skin flaking and dryness post-operatively.  Your skin has been stretched out and will have some tension.  Additionally, your breasts may have some irritation related to the dressings and surgical bra used.  Be sure to let your plastic surgeon know of this and find out what he/she recommends.  Often times, a good moisturizer will help.

Yes, it is not uncommon for the skin to develop dryness post surgery. Make sure to apply moisturizer liberally over the affected areas. Best, Dr. Nazarian

Make sure that your soap is not drying your skin too much and use a good over-the-counter moisturizer. There's a possibility that there is a lot of tension on your skin from the breast augmentation and this will improve over time as well. Good luck.

You should make sure you are using the appropriate amount of moisturizer for your skin to reduce the dry skin. Please let your doctor know so he/she can better advise you as per your medical history.

Thank you for your question.  It is common to see some mild skin flaking after a breast augmentation once your surgical swelling resolves.  The swelling stretches your breast skin, and as it improves, there is a mild amount of extra skin produced.  You can treat this dry skin with a good moisturizer and consistent daily use. Yes this is very common.  As the swelling decreases , the skin will dry out easier.    Ask your surgeon what he/she recommends that you apply to the affected area.

Yes, the problem of dry skin after swelling from breast augmentation or other plastic surgeries is common.  It will resolve as the swelling resolves.

Yes it is normal to see this. As the swelling regresses you
will see the skin begin to peal an that is normal. Use moisturizer over the
skin but not the incisions and that should help.

Thank you very much for your question.Yes, what you are experiencing is quite common.  I recommend a good moisturizer for the skin.  I would keep the moisturizer away from your incision though for the time being.  Regarding the type of moisturizer, I recommend contacting your surgeon.
