How can I get rid of these pockets of fluid after liposuction? (Photo)

Question

I have pockets of fluid that feel tight and warm. My waist is so uncomfortable due to the fluid around my waist from my lypo. What can I do so that this fluid will leave my body besides extracting it myself with a syringe?

Thank you for your question and photographs.  I would recommend seeing your surgeon for an in-person evaluation.  This may be simple swelling from the liposuction, but if it is a discrete fluid collection you may require needle placement to draw off the extra fluid so that your skin can heal appropriately.  Hope this helps.

You should be getting lymphatic massage and drainage of this fluid which is either a seroma or hematoma (blood).  Please speak to your physician.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Seromas are and should be rare after liposuction. Treatment is by serial aspiration. From the photograph it's impossible to tell but your surgeon can easily diagnosis and take care of you.

If you feel like you have fluid( i.e seroma), then it might be best to have seen by your surgeon and then possible have it aspirated by your surgeon  so that you avoid a risk of getting an infection.

A fluid collection or seroma is fairly uncommon after liposuction as there is no space for the fluid to occupy. Swelling can be prolonged if activity has been to excess or the garment has not fit well. Extracting it yourself is unthinkable, see your surgeon for help.

If fluid collects after liposuction and is evident (serum), I generally recommend aspirating it with a needle.  If there is redness over the fluid, you may have an infection and drainage and antibioitics may be needed.  Please call your surgeon to be seen.
