Thank you for your question. Both treatments are good at different time of your rehabilitation.First couple of weeks patients are still in acute recovery period and unlikely to tolerate LPG massage. Furthermore risk of infection is still high while wounds are still healing and MLD massage can be performed in sterile field. After 2 weeks of recovery most patients feel well to tolerate more tissue manipulation including LPG, Vacuum, and other technologies assisted massage treatments. Superficial lymphatic normally vessels damaged by the operation can take 2-3months to regrow and function fully again. Till then massage aid will stimulate drainage and skin retraction.
This question should be addressed by your surgeon.I don't encourage any type of massage after liposuction. When I was in medical school, I heard an attending say, "One kidney is smarter than four doctors." The implication was that the body knows what to do, and sometimes interfering with the natural healing process is not needed. In general, I'd rather see the tissues not be manipulated immediately after surgery. I would definitely avoid any treatment that causes discomfort. Many surgeons recommend massages after surgeries like liposuction. I don't believe results or healing is improved from having a massage. I'm curious to see what other surgeons or doctors have to say about massages 16 days after liposuction. Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
These techniques are worthless. As a matter of fact, if done to aggressively they might actually do harm.
