Drainage after liposuction is variable. Some patients drain longer than others. I personally like to leave the suprapubic stab incisions and the one above the buttock cleft open for drainage. Early lymphatic massage, which your surgeon believes in, is very good. If the drainage is clear or straw colored I would not worry about it, but certainly you need to express your concerns to your surgeon. With advanced body sculpting techniques, there's more drainage than with traditional liposuction only. Also, some surgeons close their stab incisions and there's no fluid drainage. I believe, the more fluid comes out, the better the final result and shaping. Again, discuss your concerns with your operative surgeon. Good luck.
I am assuming that you are still experiencing drainage from your abdominal incisions 6 days after your liposuction. Generally, drainage after surgery occurs at most for a couple of days. If your drainage continues to be persistent, you should follow up with your plastic surgeon. Thank you for your question. Best wishes.
Lymphatic massage has not been shown to be of benefit prior to liposuction.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
It’s not essential but it does speed up recovery. In our practice we start the lymphatic massage day two. Always confirm with your primary doctor whether or not this is ok to do.Best of luck,Dr. Millard
