I want to treat my double chin. Kybella or radio frequency? (Photos)

Question

Hi! I’m 20. I have a genetic double chin (from dad’s gene), it’s not a result of weight gain or aging. I’ve always had since I was a kid. I’m looking into different options that is most affordable yet best results. There’s of course Kybella. but I have also come across RF lifting that uses radio frequency, ultrasound and vacuum as an option from one of the centers I consulted, it’s cheaper than kybella. Is it effective in reducing double chin or is kybella better? Thank you!

Kybella is uniquely developed to chemically destroy fat under the chin. CoolSculpting uses fat "freezing" to reduce the amount of fat as well, without the need for injections. Both have proven results.

most of my younger clients use fillers to give them shaping especially on the cheeks, jawline, and chin which make the face look more slim and tight; and threads such as PDO or Instalift can build collagen and support the facial shaping and skin looseness over time, slowing down the aging process and given the face a more “snatched” look; and morpheus deep microneedling RF can tighten crepe skin especially on the neck and jawline and is great for long term tightening of the full face, neck and chest; its often used to give the face a slimmer more sculpted look because it tightens the skin and gives lift.  an early face lift can be performed as well even in younger clients if they want a different facial shape, maxillofacial surgery with bone breaking or shaving can also be done.

For facial slimming a combination of treatments are always needed.  Options include:
1. Buccal fat pad removal to reduce fat on the lower face
2. Factite or Renuvion/J Plasma to tighten the lower face, jawline, and chin to reduce fat and give the jawline and neck tightening and shaping.
3. Botox to the masseter to reduce the muscular size of the jaw giving the face an illusion of being more slender
4. Fillers to the jawline, chin, cheeks, temples and brow help to shape the face and make it more angled and defined

Dear zoe_a,
Kybella typically takes 3 to 5 treatments to work. This is why I've stopped carrying Kybella in my office. I recommend neck liposuction more often then any injectable procedure for the neck now. It provides superior results gives me more control over the area than any injectable. It also costs about the same as what you paid for your first kybella session. The liposuction can be done under local while awake in the office and recovery is about the same as kybella.

Kybella is a good option to dissolve the fat. If you fit the applicator, you could also try CoolSculpting. Other alternatives include Secret RF microneedling and PDO thread lifting. Make sure you are getting treatment from a board-certified physician or other experienced health care professional.

Both kybella and Cutera Trusculpt ID radiofrequency are excellent options for this area.

Advantages of Kybella
1) injectable
2) can be repeated monthly (or can wait longer)
Disadvantages: 
1) Marked swelling (looks worse before better)
2) Bruising common
3) Paraesthesias and numbness
4) Delayed pain

Advantages of radiofrequency with Cutera TRUSCULPT ID
1) No downtime
2) Typically 3 sessions done weekly
3) Can be repeated
4) No drama after treat as with Kybella.  Markedly more swelling with kybella
5) Less risk of paraesthesia  than kybella.
6) No delayed pain
Disadvantage
1) Device needed Cutera Trusculpt ID
2) Repeat sessions of 5 minutes per handpiece size x 3 sessions weekly

If lateral neck tightening is needed, micro injection of kybella or Venus Legacy radiofrequency are good options.  A series of sessions is needed with the Venus Legacy.  Micro injections of Kybella are needed as nerve exposure / risk goes up in this off label region.

The underlying reason why your face has that appearance is based on facial skeletal structure. You and your dad have a mandible that is slightly under developed Alex forward projection compared to your maxilla. And your profile this shows with your upper lip having more for projection than your lower lip. Most likely you also have a dental overbite occlusion.

Treating the primary problem typically gives more success. That removal is fairly successful as well. Liposuction is the gold standard and the only procedure I would recommend other than it’s a chin implant or sliding genioplasty.

Radio frequency or any type of vacuum treatment is not going to do anything.

Kybella does work but it is an inferior treatment to Liposuction.

Hi, and thanks for your question. I would recommend multiple rounds of Kybella to remove fat especially around the jowl/under chin area. My patients have a very high satisfactory rating when using Kybella in the face. Synthetic deoxycholic acid is the ingredient used in Kybella, which is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of fat. When injected into fat, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness on the face. A more effective but invasive but expensive option would be to receive liposuction in that area.
