Can distance between the eyes be reduced?

Question

I have posted some photos in a previous question. I believe that my eyes are too far apart, which is something contributes to my facial asymmetry. However, I've read in an article on this site that the distance between the eyes cannot be corrected. I've also heard, that it can be done, but only for reconstructive reasons. Can I do something else to correct this? Would a nose job give the illusion that my eyes are close-set? Thanks and Happy New Year !!

Reducing the distance between the two eyes is typically undertaken under circumstances of congenital conditions and syndromes that require significant reconstruction.  Frequently, rhinoplasty can be undertaken to create the illusion of widening or shortening of the interpupillary distance.  Consult with an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon.  Good luck!

Hello notellingya,Your information is correct, in that the distance between the eyes cannot be reduced, unless it were necessary as part of the reconstructive measures after a bad accident. The distance between your eyes is normal. If you seriously think that you should have it reduced, then it may be assumed that you suffer from dysmorphophobia..

The surgical correction of a wide interpupillary distance is usually performed for severe facial deformities. I don't have access to your pictures but it is possible that a rhinoplasty may help. Consult a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with rhinoplasty experience.Best wishes

Hi,It's difficult to say without seeing your pictures. However, raising the naso-frontal angle typically gives reduces the flatness between your eyes and makes your eyes look closer together.Best,Dr.S.
