I was diagnosed with Graves Disease, I've had saline filled silicone breast implants for two years. I have no family history of hyperthyroidism/Graves Disease. Do you think this illness was sparked by my implants? 45 years old. 5'4, 140 lbs. (female) Do you think my body is fighting the implants? Causing this?
Answer: Graves disease and breast implants It has not been reported in plastic surgery literature, to my knowledge, that there is association between breast implant and Graves disease. This is an issue that you should address primarily with an endocrinologist. However, if this continues to bother your mind, removal of implant will solve that (mental) problem. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Answer: Possibility of body rejecting foreign body Removal of breast implants, intact or ruptured, may have positive implications if patients are symptomatic. A constellation of symptoms associated with breast implant illness, and autoimmune disease are considered when treating patients who have breast implants and are concerned about foreign body reaction. In our office, we begin this journey with a consideration of symptoms and exclusion of obvious autoimmune problems. In many of our patients, en bloc removal of breast implants with capsulectomy is important and beneficial. Further clinical evidence about breast implant illness is evolving and will continue to guide treatment. I would suggest removal if there is a possibility of foreign body reaction. Answer: Breast implants There has been a thirty year ongoing debate as to whether breast implants could trigger an autoimmune disease. Even now there is no agreement in this so you will never get a definitive answer. If you wish to have your implants removed in the hope of resolving the problem there are many surgeons who would perform it, but with no assurance regarding whether your Grave’s disease would be affected
