Can sliding genioplasty be performed under twilight?

The answer is yes. I perform all isolated genioplasty procedures with twilight anesthesia in our accredited surgery center. There is no need for a deeper anesthetic which may include an inhalation gas, and a level of anesthesia that requires a longer recovery. Even with facelift surgery, we prefer local, tumescent, and intravenous anesthesia. By performing the procedure in our office under twilight anesthesia there is a diminished cost for the procedure.

While sliding genioplasty can be performed under different forms of IV sedation, the real question is why? This is really no different than general anesthesia is most ways that relate to recovery, the need for transportation after surgery and cost.
