Filler for Nasolabial folds? What kind of risks are associated with filler in this area?

Hi @Catalina087! Hyaluronic acid based filled work great to address the nasolabial folds. I recommend Restylane Defyne or Refyne to treat this area. With any procedure. there are risks. I recommend seeking treatments from expert injectors who have the skill and experience to precisely inject fillers into treatment areas and avoid risks and complications.

I recommend fillers for the folds themselves but also lifting around the mouth and cheeks to build underlying anatomical support. Hi,There are many fillers on the market that work well in the nasolabial fold, I like Restylane defyne or Juvederm ultra. The risks for filler injection are nearly universally the same. There are minor risks such as bruising, lumps or irregularities and major ones such as necrosis and blindness. I like to compare injecting filler to flying on an airplane. I have been on a lot of flights with some turbulence but I have never been in a plane crash. The major complications have been reported but are very rare. Best,Mehdi Sina, MD

There are several risks in injecting filler i the NL area and these are for the most part present in just about every area injected with filler. The minor ones are bruising , swelling, lumps.  The moderate are the tinsel effect where the filler when placed to superficially turns a blue tint and over filling / uneven filling. The more severe infection , compression of the vein system, nodule formation. The worst occlusion of the artery supplying tissues in the area notably the upper lip and noseI recommend you find a well trained physician to inject you and avoid coupon deals, non MD spas and home parties like the plague.
