Hello. I'm goining to get a chin implant(7 mm, silocone) in december. At the consultation my doctor told be me that the implant will naturally grow together with the bone, and a screw will therefor not be necessary. I just need to wear some tape for a week, he told me. I worry: is this the common procedure? I thougt a screw was necessary, and I didn't thougt you needed to wear tape for that long?

Answer: Chin Implant Fixation Surgeons use many different methods of trying ensure chin implant position from a tight pocket to sutures to screws. While most surgeons do not use screws, it is hard to argue with the absolutely secure implant positioning that such a technique provides.

Answer: Chin implant placement In our practice, we use Silastic chin implants without screw fixation or application of any tapes. The chin implant procedure involves making a very precise pocket underneath the periosteum, and placing the implant directly between the bone and the periosteum itself. No screws or tape are required. For more information, and many examples of chin implants, please see the link and video below
