Alarplasty technique never seen before - Would you recommend it be done? (photos)

Question

I came across alarplasty results using a technique different than i have ever seen before and the results are amazing! Why is this technique not more common and can any surgeon perform this type of alarplasty? Is this an old way of trimming the alar or is this something new? I believe this is done in the phillipines.. the results show flat ethnic noses completely changed such as asian/hispanic. Is this technique performed here in the United states as well? Would you recommend it be done?

I have seen that technique used to thin out the nostril edge. It can work well in certain cases where the skin along the rim is thick.  I have only used it a few times. Most surgeons are afraid to do aggressive alar reductions such as this. Although they have no problem doing lip
Lifts which I don’t care for.

Good Afternoon! I am unfamiliar with this technique. The problem with being too aggressive with the nostrils is that if asymmetries are created, they can be very difficult to correct. Significant deformities can occur with poorly-executed alarplasties outside of this technique. I would advise against anything which changes the nostril margin or places suture in that area. Alarplasty is done regularly here in the USA.  In the photos you show there is what looks like a "rim incision" along the nostril.  That has generally fallen out of favor because there is a high risk for complications such as scarring on the bottom of the nose that will be hard to fix.
However, getting narrowed nostrils can be done many ways.  A personal consultation is your best way to learn more.
