31 with platysma bands, will Botox help?

Question

The edges of my platysma muscle are visible in the front when I hold my head up high. It doesn't look as though it is "split" but clearly visible. From reading it looks like the weight gain and loss through pregnancy or straining my neck at the gym could be the cause. Is botox the only option to hide this?

Thank you for your question.  Botox, Dysport or Xeomin can help improve the visibility of your platysma bands.  The Botox, Dysport or Xeomin will relax the platysma muscle and improve the banding.  Other modalities can also be used to improve the appearance of an aging neck.

Yes, try Botox to soften your platysmal bands and chemical peels to improve the quality of your skin and, one hopes, restore a bit of elasticity. Kybella or neck liposuction may be good options for defining the chin and jawline. I hope this helps.

Botox is a very quick and relatively inexpensive treatment for reducing troublesome, vertical playsmal bands that course straight down the neck from under the chin region. I personally started performing this treatment about twenty-five years ago with consistently gratifying results in appropriately selected patients. In the early years, we simply injected straight down the vertical bands. However, in time, we became aware of the major contribution of that portion of the platysma that courses along the jawline to the aging neck, a realization that led to treating the jawline in addition to the veritcal neck cords themselves. The tightening of the neck and the jawline led to renaming the procedure The Nefertiti Necklift, after King Tut's step-mother, Nerfertiti, whose statue in the museum in Berlin displays the ideal "chiseled" jawline of youth. The Nefertiti Lift should not be left to the hands of novice, inexperienced, cut-rate injectors. Neuromodulators like Botox and Dysport are a great treatment option for platysmal bands. I usually recommend 8-12 units of Botox or an equivalent amount of Dysport for each band.
