Hard lump after Botox.

Question

I have a hard lump directly above my brow at the injection site. It appeared immediately after the botox injection and has stayed despite using a cold compress. It is tender to the touch and looks like it might bruise. How long can I expect this bump to stay?

Bruises can occur after any injection of filler or Botox, although they are uncommon after Botox. I find that using a bright light on my patient's face helps me avoid blood vessels that aren't obvious in darker conditions, but bruising can't be avoided completely because many vessels are below the surface of the skin and can't be seen. Some bruises are flat and can't be felt, but others accumulate as a small bump and can be tender. These bumps can last for several weeks. Don't manipulate or massage this area for at least one day. Using warm, not hot, compresses with warm tap water on a clean washcloth and letting it sit for a minute or two a few times per day can help the bump go away sooner, but don't do this the same day as treatment. Hello and thank you for your question. Normally there may be slight bumps and bruising at or around the injection sites. Cold compresses will help, but be gentle and careful not to burn your skin with direct ice.

Bruising can be typical after any type of injections and can last 1-2 weeks. Icing, arnica and VBeam treatments can give improvement. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your painful bump.  If your injector accidentally struck a vein you may have been left with a deep bruise or small hematoma in the skin or muscle.  This may ultimately discolor the overlying skin but will resolve spontaneously within a few days to a couple of weeks depending on size and severity.  Hang in there!

Hi,Thank you for your question.It's difficult to know without an in person exam but based on your description, it sounds like you may have a bruise from the needle injection. Depending on the size of the bruise, it should resolve anywhere from 2-10 days. Take some arnica and gently massage to break up the bruise. Hope this helps!

This is difficult to answer without pictures. This may be due to swelling and/or placement. I recommend following up with your injector. It can take up to 2 weeks for your final results. Hope this helps.

While injectors are careful to minimize the chance of a bruise, they can still happen and this sounds very much like a bruise.  Topical Arnica gel can be quite helpful, and this should resolve in the next week or 2.  If possible, avoid having injections done during your menstrual cycle, avoid alcohol and blood thinners (like fish oil) in the days prior to your appointment.  Best of luck!

Likely you are getting a bruise from the needle hitting a blood vessel and this will fade over a week or so. as it becomes more bruise like apply vitamin K cream
