Answer: BBL candidate Dear Anika W, It is hard to tell for sure without an examination. You will need to get a clearance from your doctor prior to surgery. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Can I get a BBL if I'm protein C deficient? You would definitely need evaluation by a hematologist and clearance before considering surgery. Provide your hematologist's report to your PS so that the two of them along with the anesthesiologist can minimize your risks during surgery and recovery. Early ambulation, shorter surgeries, venous compression devices prior to induction of general anesthesia, and anticoagulation in the appropriate candidates help manage this risk. There is a scarcity of evidence within plastic surgery literature concerning risk stratification and management of patients with respect to thromboembolic disease. Body mass index greater than 30 and hormone therapy use were associated with a significantly increased venous thromboembolism rate. Protein C deficiency is a congenital or acquired condition that leads to increased risk for thrombosis. Patients with inherited thrombophilia who undergo surgery should generally be treated as a high‐risk group and receive prophylactic periperative anticoagulation. The risk will not be zero with any technique or instrument but superficial injections with larger blunt cannula will have the lowest risk.

Answer: Can I get a BBL if I'm protein C deficient? Hello and thank you for your question. You are at higher risk of have DVT and possibly PE post op.Blood thinners are often used to prevent DVT or blood clots in the legs.. Strategies to prevent DVT include early ambulation post op, pharmacological measures (subcutaneous heparin, etc) or mechanical with the use of SCD machines (intra-op and postop). Plastic surgeons typically determine the DVT risk using standardized formulas (e.g. Caprini score) and decide on the best regimen based on the patient's calculated risk. Your surgeon should consult with a hematologist for assistance in prevention strategies.Best wishes, Pejman Aflaki, M.D. Johns Hopkins-trained double board-certified plastic surgeon
